Overhaulin: A Government Website Classic

February 17th, 2009  |  Published in Web Design

Whether or not you agree with President Obama’s Stimulus Package or his politics, one this is undeniable — he has a serious eye for STYLE. He first impressed me with his website during the 2008 presidential race, and now he has overhauled the whitehouse.gov website. The new White House web design is impressively clean, user-friendly and screaming with new media technologies.

Obama’s campaign was a “Rocky-like” story that is an inspiration to all website owners. Obama was not the first political candidate to own a website. He was the first to successfully build a database of supporters through the website. He engaged his followers in a social onversation, using the all the best internet technologies to deliver his brand’s message.

Web Design Builds Brands

Businesses of all sizes should take notice and use the internet to build upon an identity and/or rebrand totally. The internet needs to play a key role in delivering a company’s mission. No matter what the corporate vision, your website is the opportunity to develop a strategic boost of your brand’s competitive position.

With the current economic fears, the opportunity to rebrand will provide advantages over retreating competitors. A newly designed website can be a key to your success and serve as a launching pad. Understanding that its not all about aesthetics or technology, it’s about building relationships, both online and offline.

I am looking forward to a more beautiful internet. The government has the resources to hire the right mix of designers and developers to dramatically improve its appearance, usability and its communication. Was there anything in the bill for a Delaware web designer?
